FedCon Report - Part 2

Part 1 - Background and Friday

Part 2 - Saturday at the FedCon

Part 3 - Sunday at the FedCon

Part 4 - Visit to Tobias Richter.

Saturday
On Saturday morning we used every last minute to try and get a DVD version on Enemy Starfleet with subtitles ready for FedCon. Technical problems and the time needed to render the DVD prevented this, however. At least we had a working .MP4 version.

We left for FedCon realising that we had all the DVD copies of "The Child" that was due to be shown that morning! We drove as fast as we could (I am based in Cologne, just north of Bonn) and arrived 15 minutes late. Luckily, the previous talk was running over time and there were no more talks in that room directly after us. "The Child" was then shown to about 500 people in the smaller "Holodeck" conference room.

We had also arranged with the FedCon staff that we could use the smaller "Salon Koch" conference room (seats about 50) to show further episodes when it was not being used for the "Wii Olympics". The only problem was the lack of an audio system so I brought my own to the show. This was also great for the "Wii Olympics" as well, as all they had was a mini speaker on the video projector (Germans call them a "Beamer").

Salon Koch was located on the first floor next to a room showing a TNG engine room set.

We posted A4 size posters all over the FedCon (the one below the Salon Koch display) so that everybody would know about these extra showings. On Saturday, we were able to show some of the older episodes, most popular of which was "World Enough and Time". We could only show about 3 episodes there on Saturday as James was due to hold his second panel in the "Holodeck" that evening in parallel to the Costume Competition which started a little earlier on the "Main Bridge".

In the evening, we started to watch the costume competition from our seats on the balcony of the main bridge. James commented that the competition was much more interesting at FedCon as each contestent puts on a little show instead of just showing off their costume - this greatly added to the fun of the whole thing. Just before James was due to appear for his panel in the Holodeck, he made the comment that he did not think many people would be there as the costume contest was so good.....

We went over to the Holodeck and we were pleasently surprised to see more than 50 people all waiting for James. During his panel, that number increased dramatically particually after the costume contest had finished.

His second panel turned out to be excellent with many good questions. For technical reasons, the recording starts about 5 minutes after his panel began.

It was an excellent panel where James also showed a never seen before clip from "Kitumba". The panel was so interesting that James continued his talk beyond his allocated time meaning "Enemy Starfleet" could not be shown at its full length. Luckily, we still had a possibility to show it one more time on Sunday.

After the panel, James offered the now large group of people free signed pictures and a long queue formed at the back of the room while Enemy Starfleet showed on the screen. The second panel was a great success with a lot of good questions and new info from James.

In fact the entire day was excellent and there was a great party and even a big fireworks display to round off the evening.
